Francis 'Gene' E. Porter

Francis E. ‘Gene’ Porter, 87, of Louisville, Kentucky, formerly of Odon, Indiana, passed away surrounded by his loved ones, on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at his residence. He was born on February 3, 1930 in Burns City, Indiana to Fay and Myrtle (Sipes) Porter. He married his loving wife, Wilma ‘Tootsie’ (Gaslin) Porter, on August 22, 2009.

Gene was a US Air Force Veteran and a member of the Hikes Point Christian Church of Louisville. He worked as an insurance claims agent until he retired on December 31, 1991.

Gene is survived by his wife, Wilma ‘Tootsie’ Porter of Louisville and a brother, Dean (Sue) Porter of Odon.

Gene was preceded in death by: his parents; one son, Gerald Porter; daughter, Pamela Porter; two brothers, Fred and Warren Porter; sisters, Betty Aishe and infant Bonnie Bell Porter.

A memorial service is scheduled for 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at Meng Family Funeral Home in Odon with Jeff Wallace officiating. Gene will be laid to rest in Sugarland Memory Gardens in Washington following military graveside rites.

Family and friends may call from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Friday, November 10 at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions to be made to White Mills Christian Camp in Kentucky or Camp Illiana in Indiana. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
