Ray O. Hart

Ray O. Hart, 95, of Odon, IN, passed away on Monday, July 29, 2019, at Parkview Christian Care Center. He was born on April 20, 1924, in Daviess County, IN to William A. and Mary Ruth (Smith) Hart. He married Martha E. (Clinton) Hart on July 10, 1949, and the couple had recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.

Ray was a WWII Veteran having served in the US Navy.  He graduated from Indiana State University with a Bachelors Degree in Education and a Masters Degree in Education Administration. He began work in elementary education and later became a principal, working in Daviess County Schools until retirement in 1984.  Ray was a member of the Odon United Methodist Church, the Daviess Co. Retired Teachers Assoc., American Legion Post #293, and the Wabash Cannonballs Camping Club.  He enjoyed farming, gardening, golfing, fishing and, most of all, spending time with family. Ray loved to travel, as well, and for the last 25 years, he relaxed during the winter months in Ft. Myers / LaBelle, FL.

Family left to cherish Ray’s memory include: his wife, Martha C. Hart; two sons, Edwin Hart of Washington and Gary (Kristy) Hart of Williamsport; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Margaret (Ralph) Dailey of Worthington.

Ray was preceded in death by: his parents, William and Mary Ruth Hart; and siblings, Donald Hart, Beulah Nolting, Betty Birt, Zelma Helderman, John Hart, Marilyn Scott, and Fred Hart.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 3, 2019, at the Meng Family Funeral Home in Odon, with Pastor Debbie Payne officiating. Ray will be laid to rest in Sugarland Memory Gardens in Washington, IN.

Family and friends may call from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Friday, August 2, 2019, and from 9:00 AM on Saturday until the hour of service at 11:00 AM, at the funeral home.
