Sue Ellen (Daugherty) Hayes

Sue Ellen Hayes, 89, of Odon, Indiana, passed away peacefully, on Thursday, October 17, 2019 in Washington, Indiana. She was born on April 16, 1930 in Princeton, Indiana to Paul and Beatrice (Haskett) Daugherty. Sue married her husband, James L. Hayes on April 6, 1952.

Sue was a member of the Odon United Methodist Church. She touched many lives during her 35-year career as a teacher at several different schools and then Odon Elementary School, before retiring in 1985.

Family left to cherish Sue’s memory includes: three sons, David ‘Jake’ (Gwen) Hayes of Carmel, Patrick Hayes of Mechanicsburg, PA, Michael Hayes and Phil Rothermich of Chicago, IL; grandchildren, Maggie Hayes, Mary Hayes, Emily (Elias) Stoner and Adam Hayes; three step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren.

Sue was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, James Hayes and a sister, Nancy Whitsitt.

A graveside service honoring the life of Sue will be at 1:30 PM on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Odon with Pastor Debbie Payne officiating.

There will be a time for family and friends to gather for a visitation from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at the Meng Family Funeral Home.  For those who wish, memorials may be sent to the Winklepleck Memorial Library in Odon.
