William P. Russell

May 19, 1925 ~ September 17, 2017 (age 92) 92 Years Old

William P. Russell, 92, of Washington, Indiana, formerly of Loogootee, Indiana, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on September 17, 2017 in Washington. He was born on May 19, 1925 in Orleans, Indiana to Paul and Ida (Moffet) Russell. He married Leona Edmonson Russell and after her passing, he married Nina Ruth Gerard Thompson Russell.

William was a US Army WWII veteran and then worked at Crane until his retirement in 1981. He was a member of the Berea Mennonite Church and the Loogootee American Legion. William enjoyed tinkering in his garden, doing outside yardwork, spending time with his family and listening to old country music. He loved his dog, Copper.

Survivors include: two sons, Thomas (Amy) Russell of Washington and Billy Russell of Loogootee; one daughter: Cindy (Butch) Bridges of Bedford; two step-daughters, Melody (Don) Leatherman of Williams and Linda Thompson of Loogootee; step-son, Gary Thompson of Florida; sister, Ruthie Burlington of Orleans; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

William was preceded in death by: his parents; first wife, Leona Russell; second wife, Nina Russell; infant son, Brian Russell; daughter, Rita Russell; brothers, Gene, Roy, and Manson Russell; sisters, Betty Edmonson, Catherine Compton and May Russell.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at Berea Mennonite Church, in Cannelburg, with Pastor Eddie Graber officiating. William will be laid to rest in Goodwill Cemetery, in Loogootee, following military graveside rites by the Loogootee VFW and the Army Honor Guard.

Family and friends may call from 9:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM on Wednesday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Meng Family Funeral Home to help the family with expenses. Envelopes will be available at the church.
