Alvin E. McKee, 86, of Sandborn, Indiana, passed away Sunday, July 29, 2007, at Greene County General Hospital in Linton. He was born in Wayne County, Missouri, on February 26, 1921, to Elmer A. and Roxie Z. (Hale) McKee. On October 11, 1946, he married Clara Belle Williams.
Alvin was a veteran of the US Army who served during WWII. After serving his country he became a coal miner and worked for Peabody Coal Company for more than 40 years. He had retired in 1986. Alvin was a member of the Sandborn Christian Church, NRA, UMWA, American Legion Post #22, Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute, and the Greene County Shrine Club. He was an avid horseman and along with his wife, participated in the Linton Freedom Festival Parade for 53 consecutive years, sporting an equestrian unit.
Survivors include his wife, Clara Belle McKee, a sister, Barbara Faye Albright of Terre Haute, IN, and several nieces and nephews.
Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and two brothers.
Friends may call at Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel in Linton from 4:00 to 8:00 PM, Wednesday, August 1, 2007, and Thursday, August 2, from 9:00 AM until the hour of service. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 AM, Thursday, August 2, 2007, with Bryan Sanders officiating. Burial will follow at the Stafford Cemetery in Sandborn, IN, with Military Graveside Rites.
