Arthur 'Art' L. Hensley, 84, of Dugger, Indiana, passed from this life, on Sunday, November 24, 2024, at his residence in Sullivan County. He was born in Linton, Indiana, on September 16, 1940, to Eugene 'Cotton' and Louise (Bland) Hensley.
Art was a US Navy Veteran, serving during the Vietnam War. After his military service, he worked for Indiana Bell for 17 years and then several years in the hotel/motel retail business. Art was a member of the American Legion Post #22 and the Linton BPOE Elks Lodge #866 and Past Exalted Ruler with the Bedford BPOE Elks. He was an auto enthusiast who loved spending his time restoring cars and trucks. He thoroughly enjoyed attending and participating in car shows, where he could display his restorations and enjoy other people's work, as well. He also enjoyed racing cars and loved watching and supporting his grandchildren drag race. Art will be sorely missed by family and friends.
Family left to cherish the memories of Art include: his companion, Barbara J. Flynn; a son, Doug (Jamie) Hensley and a daughter, Lois (Terry) Astleford, both of Linton; 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; step-children: Lydia (Flynn) Padgett, David (Sandy) Swan, Sue Tannehill, Pamela (Rich) Orr, Michelle (Gordon) Richie and David George; several extended grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great- grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Wilma R. (Phillip) Jerrell of Bloomington, IN, and Carolyn (Scott) Wellington of Linton, IN, and last, but not least, Art's best friend and fur companion, Toby.
Art was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Janet E. (Hallett) Hensley, and a brother, James Earl Hensley.
Funeral services to honor Art's life will be at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, November 27th, 2024, at the Meng Family Funeral Home / Anderson-Poindexter Chapel in Linton with Pastor Phillip Turner officiating. Following the service, Art will be laid to rest in Lebanon Cemetery in Midland, IN, with Military Rites presented by American Legion Post #22 and the Linton BPOE Elks #866.
Family and friends may call from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Tuesday, November 26th, 2024, and from 11:00 AM until the time of service at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, at the funeral home.
