Barry L. Lawhead, 71, of Elnora, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 31, 2018 in Loogootee, Indiana. He was born on May 19, 1947 in Vincennes, Indiana to Richard L. "Bud" and Barbara Jean (Lind) Lawhead. Barry married Sylvia Sparks on August 21, 1971.
Barry was a member of the Odon First Christian Church. He was a US Navy veteran, serving two tours in Vietnam. Barry worked with the Poindexter Ambulance Service and had been employed with General Electric of Linton. He had worked as a butcher with Buehlers Red and White Grocery and most recently employed with the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility in Carlisle, Indiana. He taught CPR classes for the American Heart Association, served on the Daviess County Fair Board and was member of the Elnora Outdoor Club. Barry was also a member of the Odon American Legion Post #196.
Survivors include: his wife, Sylvia; two daughters, Kaylee (Quentin) Hastings and Janalee (Brent) Saucerman; grandsons, Jude and Max Hastings and William and Benjamin Saucerman; one sister, Jeri Dee Lawhead of Lafayette and one brother, Randy (Marilou) Lawhead of Linton; Barry was preceded in death by: his parents; one sister, Sherry Jane Lawhead.
Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, January 4, 2019 at the Odon First Christian Church in Odon with Pastor Micah Stephen officiating, Barry will be laid to rest in Walnut Hill Cemetery in Odon following military graveside rites by the Odon VFW Post #9627. Family and friends may call from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Thursday, January 3, 2019, at the Odon First Christian Church and from 9:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 4, 2019 at the Odon First Christian Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Odon First Christian Church Building Fund. Envelopes will be available at the church.
