Cleatus Jefferson Long, 93, of Claremont, North Carolina, formerly of Elnora, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 14, 2018 at the Charles George VA Hospital in Asheville, North Carolina. He was born on December 4, 1924 in Elnora to George Oliver and Tena M. (Christenbury) Long.

Cleatus was a US Army WWII veteran. He was a member of the Elnora American Legion Post #245 and was a retired farmer. Cleatus enjoyed fishing and especially loved spending time with his family.

Survivors include: two daughters, Teresa (Ron) Myers of Claremont, NC and Cathy (Dale) Williams of Elizabethton, TN; two sons, Randall Long of Beech Grove, IN and Kevin Long of Terre Haute, IN; grandchildren: Brian Myers, Alex Myers, Heather Myers, Kristen Baird, Katie Crowder, Michael Williams, Claressa Knight, Branda Buskirk, Jerad Long, Emily Long, Dylan Long, Jesse Long, Jennifer Alden, Tiffany Long.

Cleatus was preceded in death by: his parents; his wife, Betty Long; one daughter, Vanessa Kaye Rowe and one son, Jimmy Dale Long; brothers, Ernest, Joseph, Walter, George, Randolph, Oral and sister, Velma (Murel) Ferguson.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Meng Family Funeral Home in Odon. Cleatus will be laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery in Elnora following military graveside rites by the Elnora American Legion Post #245.

Family and friends may call from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Friday, January 19 and from 9:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM on Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family to help with expenses. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
