Obituary

Donald Lee Graber, 76, of Plainville, Indiana passed away peacefully on May 21st at Daviess County Hospital after a four-year battle with esophageal cancer. He was born January 20, 1949 in Odon, Indiana to John (Mush) and Verda (Clown) Graber.

Don was a member of the Plainville Christian Church. He was a 1967 Odon High School graduate, where he was a standout athlete. He was proud of his basketball years there and how good his teammates were, as both players and friends. Don continued his love of sports by coaching his girls in softball, including a State Runner-up 12U team, Paymaster Bears, and as a fastpitch coach at North Daviess. Don could often be seen watching the Cougar basketball games alongside fellow fans, Bobby and Lesli Boardman, Gary Allen and Randy Blevins. They also shared a love for Indiana University basketball. The only thing he loved more was watching the success of his daughters, grandchildren, and great-granddaughter in whatever they chose to pursue. Don loved working with his hands, helping his family with numerous remodeling projects over the years. He began working at Pat Larkin Lumber in Loogootee after high school. He was a retired farmer and co-owner of City Lumber and Hardware.

Family left to cherish the memory of Don include his four daughters with Anna Parsley Graber Bontrager (Plainville),  Sheila (Jon) Willis of Owensboro, KY, Leslie (Mike) Heshelman of Plainville, Jodi (John) Berry of Plainville, Beth (Ed) Smith of Plainville; six grandchildren, Patrick Calhoun of Owensboro, KY, Garrett Heshelman of Odon, Lane Heshelman of Plainville, Samantha Heshelman of Plainville, Trey Smith of Plainville, Tori Smith of Plainville, Shom (Cassie) Berry of Bloomfield; one great granddaughter Addison Calhoun of Owensboro, KY; three sisters, Shirley (Randall) Byrer of Odon, Fern (Norman) Fleenor of Brownsburg, and Sandra (Charles) Mulvey of Marion, KY; one brother, Marc (Susie) Graber of Odon.

Don was preceded in death by his mother, Verda Graber (August 22, 2014), his father, John Graber (January 2, 2016), a brother, Stanley Brian Graber (October 11, 1996), a sister, Eva Dorene Graber (June 7, 2021), and a granddaughter, Nicole Donelle (Willis) Calhoun (January 18, 2020).
