Esther Sweeney, 84 of Dugger, passed away Sunday August 28th, 2005 in Bloomington, IN. She was born in Sullivan County, June 4, 1921, the daughter of Melvin B. Saucerman And Elva E. (Hale) Saucerman/Abram. She was raised by her step-father, Jesse Abram and mother, Elva.
Esther was a secretary for Farmers Home Administration in Sullivan and Farm Security Administration in Princeton. She was a member of the Dugger First Baptist Church. In 1939, she graduated from Pleasantville High School and attended Terre Haute Commercial College in 1939 and 1940. Esther married Robert V. (Bob) Sweeney and had two sons, Alan B. Sweeney and Vernon D. Sweeney, both of Bloomington, IN.
She is survived by her two sons, three grandchildren: Miriam Sweeney, Rebekah Baker, Chris Pheifer, one half brother: Jerry Abram of Dugger, IN, and one step-sister: Emma Terrell of Mt. Sterling, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two step-brothers: Harold and Max Abram, and a step-sister, Lucille Gray.
Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 PM, Tuesday, August 30, 2005 at the Anderson-Poindexter Dugger Chapel and 9:00 AM until the hour of service on Wednesday, August 31, 2005. The funeral service will be held 1:00 PM, Wednesday, August 31, with Pastor John Sandiford and Rev. Keith Pope officiating. Burial will follow in the Woodward Cemetery in Dugger.
