Gail Joseph McCormick, 83, of Edwardsport, Indiana, went to Heaven on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at his home. He was born on April 27, 1943, in Vincennes, Indiana to Oscar and Rachel (Petts) McCormick. Joe married the love of his life, Mary Rita (Gartner) McCormick, on July 24, 1971.
Joe was a US Army Vietnam Veteran. He was a member of the Salem United Church of Christ, White River Valley Antique Association and American Legion Post #73, Vincennes. Joe was a Farmer, retiring in 2001. He enjoyed showing, working on and tinkering with his tractors.
Family left to cherish the memory of Joe include his wife, Mary McCormick; son, Joseph D. (Trudy) McCormick of Carlisle; daughter, Constance J. (Irving) Lockhart of Lawrenceville, IL; grandchildren, Jake (Sarah) McCormick, Luke (Elli) McCormick, Zoey McCormick and Melody Lockhart; brother, Paul McCormick and sister, Jane Black.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jack McCormick; sisters, Jean Helpingstine, Maxine Pozworski and Patty Dreher.
Funeral services to honor the life of Joe will be at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at Salem United Church of Christ, 13135 North Salem Road, Westphalia, Indiana with Pastor Rhonda Haynes officiating. Joe will be laid to rest in Freelandville Church Cemetery. Military honors will be presented by Vincennes American Legion Post #73.
Family and friends may call from 11:00 AM until the time of service at 1:00 PM on Tuesday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Salem United Church of Christ or Freelandville Community Home. Envelopes will be available at the church.
