James S. 'Jim' Vingis, 79, of Lyons, Indiana, passed away peacefully, on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, in Newburgh, Indiana. He was born on August 22, 1943, to Stanley and Dorothy (Rankin) Vingis. James married Sheryl L. "Sherry" Bradfield on March 27, 1965.

Jim was a Vietnam Veteran serving in the US Navy, he was employed with Smithville Communications for over 40 years of service, retiring in 2012. Jim enjoyed military history, reading, camping, traveling, and researching the history of trains.

Family left to cherish the memories of James include: one daughter, Shelly (Erik Kreffel) Vingis of Indianapolis. Sisters Mary Jo (Dick) Zachow of WI; Patricia Jacobs of Bicknell; Betsy (Dan) McGrath of Connecticut; Janeen (Frank) of AL; Bronie Stiles of Vincennes and Denise Summit of Oaktown.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Sheryl Vingis.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at Anderson-Poindexter Chapel in Linton. Jim will be laid to rest in Marco Cemetery, Marco IN with a Military Graveside Service.

Family and friends may call from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM EDT, Monday April 17 and from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 18, 2023.
