Obituary

Joe Disque of McAllen, Texas entered eternal rest on Wednesday, September 13, 2006 at Methodist Hospital in Houston. Joe was born April 14, 1939 to Harley H. and Dorothy (Corbin) Disque in New Castle, Indiana. He graduated from Sandborn High School, Purdue University and Indiana University School of Law.
Joe proudly served in the U.S. Navy. He served aboard the U.S.S. John King, a newly commissioned guided missile destroyer, on its maiden voyage. Following his military service, Joe began his career in banking at Indiana National Bank in Indianapolis.
While living in Indiana, Joe participated with Indiana's current Governor Mitch Daniels in the 1971 Indianapolis mayoral campaign of Richard Lugar and in the 1972 GOP National Convention.
He moved to McAllen in 1982 to take a job as Executive Vice-President at McAllen State Bank. At the time of his death, Joe was employed by Raymond James Financial at the Pharr headquarters of Lone Star National Bank.
Joe was a member of the North McAllen Rotary Club and Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity and served as an advisory board member for Teach for American-Rio Grande Valley.
Joe's influence spread far and wide. He was loved by many people whose lives were forever changed through knowing him. His laughter, love, and support inspired so many people, among them several city and civic leaders who were proud to call Joe their friend.
But it was Joe's love for young people in the Rio Grande Valley that will forever remain his legacy. Joe learned of promising young students in our community and would take them under his loving wings as a mentor and life long supporter. He would help them obtain scholarships and encourage them thought out their years in college. If they attended college in his beloved Indiana, Joe would invite them to his family's farm during breaks. His home was home to all of "Joe's kids." Whenever Joe spoke of these incredible young people, it was with amazing pride, and whenever they speak of him, it is with gratitude and deep love. In keeping with Joe's life, an education foundation has been established in his memory. Contributed funds will be used for college assistance for deserving students.
Joe is survived by his best friend and loving wife, Karen, and their three sons, Ted, Glen, and Brian (Cindy). He is also survived by two grandchildren, Taryn and Luke, one sister, Linda Kinney and his brother, Charles Disque.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September, 23, 2006 2:00 PM (C.T. Sandborn time) at the Sandborn Baptist Church located at 201 E College St. in Sandborn, Indiana 47578.
