John Robert Gardner, 68, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed from this life, with his wife by his side, on Thursday, August 6, 2026 at St. Augustine, Florida. He was born on December 10, 1957 in Linton, Indiana to Phelix and Mary L. (Culbertson) Gardner. John married his wife, Tammy S. (McNabb) Gardner on December 13, 1978.
John was a retired veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps., having served in the Gulf War. He was a member of the Jacksonville Harley Owners Group and loved riding Harleys with his wife. John restored a Corvette and a Mustang. His love for animals lead him to work at the Humane Society. He enjoyed woodworking, spending time with family and making his mean spicy sausage recipe. John graduated from North Daviess High with the Class of 1976.
Family left to cherish the memory of John include his wife, Tammy Gardner; three brothers, Virgil (Cindy) Gardner, Phelix (Sally) Gardner and Roy (Billie) Gardner; many nieces, nephews and cousins, and many who called him Uncle John.
John was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services to honor the life of John will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, August 17, 2026 at Meng Family Funeral Home in Odon with Pastor Jason Rehmel officiating. John will be laid to rest in Plainville Cemetery following military graveside rites by the U.S. Marine Corps. Honor Guard and Odon VFW Post #9627.
Family and friends may call from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Sunday, August 16 and from 9:00 AM until the time of service at 10:00 AM on Monday, August 17 at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Florida or V.A. Community Hospice Group. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
