John (Lloyd) Powell, 77, of Linton, Indiana, passed from this life, surrounded by family, on Monday, September 30, 2024 at IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born on February 21, 1947 in Linton to Louis Lloyd and Dorothy Marie (Doyle) Powell. John married Rita R. (Ball) Powell on December 22, 1968.
John was a member of the St. Peter Catholic Church. He was a math teacher for area schools and then was a meat cutter at Bloomfield IGA for over 30 years. John enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping with his family and especially attending his grandchildren's sporting events.
Family left to cherish the memory of John include: his fiance', Judy Wagler; son, John Douglas (Cheryl Coulter) Powell of Linton; daughter, Sherry Perkins of North Port, FL; grandchildren, Levi Powell, Breely Carpenter, Ashtynn Powell, Carsyn Carpenter and Ayla Powell; one great-grandchild, Layne Lloyd; three sisters, Karen Dillion of Georgia, Catherine Cox of Virginia and Nancy Pritchard of Linton. John was also an adopted father to two exchange students from South America, Veronica Escobar and Lyda Garcia.
John was preceded in death by: his parents; his wife, Rita Powell and infant grandson, Logan Powell.
Funeral services to honor the life of John will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 4, 2024 at Anderson-Poindexter Chapel in Linton with Pastor David Ball officiating. John will be laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery in Linton.
Family and friends may call from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Thursday, October 3, 2024 and from 9:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM on Friday at the funeral home.
