Obituary

Margaret Lou Berry, (97) of Plainville, Indiana, passed away on March 27, 2026, surrounded by family.

Margaret was the oldest of four siblings born to Edgar (Shom) & Irene Nowling on January 5, 1929. Margaret graduated from Plainville High School with the class of 1947. She married the love of her life John Joseph (Joe) Berry on November 28, 1947, and together they were married 56 years and raised a garden, a farm, and four wonderful children.

During Margaret’s life, she worked at Eggs Incorporated and the Plainville Grocery Store. For over twenty years, she was a beloved contributor at the Bloomington Farmers’ Market. A well-known cook and holiday hostess, Margaret’s best dishes included her homemade noodles, red velvet cake, and persimmon pudding. Margaret was an avid sports fan and enjoyed cheering for the North Daviess Cougars, the Indiana Hoosiers, and her beloved Chicago Cubs, once even enjoying a stick of gum with Mr. Wrigley himself. Margaret loved being a part of the Daviess County 4-H family and was also a devoted member of the Plainville Christian Church.

Above all, Margaret cherished her loving family. Surviving family members include her doting sons Kenny, Wayne David (Mendy), and John (Jodi), and her devoted daughter Nina Coffman. Grandchildren who treasured Grandma Berry include Jennifer Carr, Heather Meunier (Kyle), Heath Berry (Katie), Chance Berry (Stacey), Shom Berry (Cassie), and step granddaughter Jennifer Wherley (Nick). Great-grandchildren include Jordan Swan (Blake), Lincoln & Sawyer Meunier, Silas & Charlie Primus, and Grace & Jackson Wherley. Margaret is also survived by sisters-in-law Doris Kane and Sue Kohlman as well as several adoring nieces and nephews.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Joe, brothers Eddy Ray (Mary) & Billy Gene Nowling (Rita), sister Margie Sue Eaton (Bill), sisters-in-law Betty Finlay (Jack), Alma Catherine (Sis) Heim (Wayne), Ruth Shanks (Ray), Bertie Townsend (Haldon), brother-in-law Bob Berry (Edna), & son-in-law Lee Coffman.
