Charles Maryfield Obituary

Charles O. Maryfield, 92, of Odon, Indiana, passed away peacefully, at IU Health Bloomington Hospital. He was born on June 22, 1930, in Odon to Alpha Dayton and Bessie (Stuffle) Maryfield. Charles married Hazel (Terrell) Maryfield on April 3, 1955. Hazel passed away on September 20, 1973, and he never remarried.

Charles was a 1948 graduate of Odon High School and then served in the US Army as a Combat Engineer during the Korean War. He worked as a Correctional Officer at the Terre Haute Penitentiary for a short time and then worked as a Fire Fighter and Security Police at NSWC Crane. After his father retired, he purchased and operated the Maryfield Block Company in Odon for 6 years. Charles then returned to NSWC Crane Civil Service performing many jobs until promoted to QA Inspector. He retired from NSWC Crane in 1989 with 32 years of service.

Charles was a member of the VFW for 70 years, Odon Masonic Lodge #303 F&AM for over 50 years also a member of the American Legion Post #293 where he served as Commander for 8 years, along with Chaplain and other Post Officer duties. He was a former member with over 50 years of service at the Scottish Rite Valley of Evansville, Hadi Shrine of Evansville and Daviess County Shrine in Odon.

Family left to cherish the memories of Charles include: one son, Roger Maryfield of California; grandchildren, Lori (David) Kahl, Mitch (Megan) Holland, Angela Madsen, Jordan (Cara) Maryfield and Bailey Maryfield; great-grandchildren, Austin Hillenburg, Dalton Kahl, Ashley Kahl, Callahan Madsen, Blake Madsen, Madelynn Madsen, Bennett Madsen, Benjamin Holland and Reece Holland; one great-great-granddaughter, Avery Kahl.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Hazel Maryfield; one daughter, Teresa Holland/Reed; brothers, Pete and Odis Maryfield; sisters, Loreene Freed, Doris McCallian, Vera Nell, Esther Lyons and Helen Swayzee.

Graveside services will be held 10:00 AM, Thursday, April 13, 2023, at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Odon, with Masonic service followed by Military graveside rites provided by the Odon VFW Post #9627.  Arrangements and care have been entrusted to Meng Family Funeral Homes in Odon.
