David Cox Obituary

David Cox, 82, of, Washington, Indiana, passed away after a battle with cancer, on Sunday, November 1, 2020 at Ketcham Memorial Center at Odon. He was born on November 5, 1937 at home near Epsom, Indiana to Harold and Gertrude (McCallian) Cox. Dave married Marjorie Ann (Scott) Cox on June 15, 1958.   

Dave was a US Air Force veteran. While in the service, he received an award for being the youngest crew chief of a C-130.

Dave was a life-long resident of Daviess County and throughout his life, he was involved in his community. He was a volunteer fireman, a Hadi Shriner and a member of the Masonic Lodge in Odon. At one time, Dave was the Justice of the Peace for northern Daviess County. He was the first Growth Council/ Economic Development director in Daviess County and had served as the Director of the Chamber of Commerce.

Over the years, Dave received many accolades for his accomplishments in the county. He was grand marshall of the Odon Old Settlers Parade in 2016, received the Sagamore of the Wabash Award in 2001 and the Hagel Award in 2012. In 2020, he was awarded the Arthur Boddy Legacy Award.

Dave and Margie loved to travel. They spent many days riding their motorcycle and enjoyed life to the fullest. Dave will be missed by many.

Family left to cherish the memory of Dave include: his wife of 62 years, Marjorie Ann Cox; daughter, Terri Cox (Marty); son, Scott (Cheryl) Cox; grandson, Franklin Gage Cox; granddaughter, Danielle Rae Cox; great-grandson, Solaris Stone and brother, Henry (Donna) Cox.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents and his youngest brother, Ed Cox, who is survived by his wife, Tammy Cox.

A private family viewing and funeral service was held on Thursday, November 5, 2020 at Meng Family Funeral Home in Odon with Jim Norton officiating. Dave was laid to rest in Walnut Hill Cemetery following military graveside rites by the Odon VFW Post #9627.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Daviess County Community Foundation or the Odon Park.  

Following CDC guidelines, face masks will be required and continue with social distancing please.
