Gennie L. (Chambers) Matthews

Gennie L. Matthews, 79, of Elnora, Indiana, passed from this life, at home, with loving family by her side, on Saturday, November 27, 2021. She was born in Washington, Indiana on May 12, 1942 to Robert and Phyllis G. (Bennington) Chambers. Gennie married her loving husband, Richard Joe Matthews on January 19, 1964.

Gennie was a member of the Elnora Christian Church. She worked as a secretary at CFS Fertilizer Plant and also ran several cafes.

Family left to cherish Gennie’s memory include: two sons, Allen (Lisa) Harrell and Douglas (Michelle) Matthews; two daughters, Sheila (Larry) Hicks and Marquita; granddaughter, Whitney (David) Sokola; grandson, Dustin (Adyson) Matthews; great-grandson, Vincent Sokola; brother, Byron (Chris) Chambers and sister, Tammie Miley.

Gennie was proceeded in death by: her parents; her husband, Joe Matthews; brother, Darrell Chambers; sisters, Charolette (Ivan) Long and Ruthie (Bill) Robinson.

There will be no public viewing or services. Gennie will be laid to rest at Walnut Hill Cemetery at a later date.
