Gerrie John Shafer

Gerrie John Shafer, 85, of Odon, Indiana, went peacefully to Heaven, Saturday, October 17, 2020. He was born in Odon, Indiana on September 12,1935 to Fred J. and Ruth (Mumaw) Shafer. He married the love of his life of sixty-one years, Sharon L. (Kaiser) Shafer, on September 14, 1956.

Gerrie was a member of the Odon Nazarene Church and WRVAA. He enjoyed horseback riding and camping. Gerrie worked as an electronic technician at Crane Navel Base for several years until his retirement in 1992.

Family left to cherish his memories are his two sons, Tony Shafer of Odon, Terry (Tonya) Shafer of Plainville and daughter-in-law Lisa Shafer of Odon; two daughters, Debbie Parsons of Elnora and Tina (Tony) Paige of Washington; thirteen grandchildren, Beth, Allie, Cory, Neil, Craig, Julie, Clinton, Meagan, Joncellia, Johnny, Adam, Zack and Jordan; twenty great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jean Porter and Janet Lacey.

Gerrie was preceded in death by his parents, loving wife Sharon, son Bob Shafer and brother-in-laws Ray Porter and Bert Lacey.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM on Tuesday, October 20th at the Odon Nazarene Church with Pastor Chris Hughes officiating. Gerrie will be laid to rest in Walnut Hill Cemetery in Odon.

Family and friends may call from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Monday, October 19th at the Meng Family Funeral Home and from 9:00 AM until time of service at 11:00 AM on Tuesday at the church.

Following CDC guidelines, face masks will be required and continue with social distancing please.
