Grace E. (Mathews) Arford

Grace E. Arford, 88, of Odon, Indiana, passed away sweetly, with loved ones at her side, on Friday, September 27, 2019 at Ketcham Memorial Center in Odon. She was born on February 19, 1931 in Greene County, Indiana to Burthel and Nellie (Mitchell) Mathews. Grace married Harold R. Arford on July 16, 1960.

Grace was a member of the Shiloh Church of God, Bloomfield Rebekah Lodge #595 and was a charter member of the White River Valley Antique Association. She worked as a bookkeeper at the Bloomfield Chevrolet Dealership for 13 ½ years and then was privileged to be a stay-at-home mom for her daughter and then Daniel and Sarah while their parents worked. Grace was blessed to have time with Kinze, her great-granddaughter. She liked to work on the farm, garden and take care of the produce from the garden. Grace liked to piece and quilt various quilts for a hobby and enjoyed cooking.

Family left to cherish Grace’s memory include: one daughter, Becky (Ben) Chestnut of Odon; two grandchildren, Daniel (Missy) Chestnut of Odon and Sarah (Nick) Chestnut of Indianapolis and one great-grandchild, Kinze Dee Chestnut.

Grace was preceded in death by her husband, Harold R. Arford, brother, Fred Mathews and sister, Wilma Taylor.

A funeral service honoring Grace’s life will be at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at Meng Family Funeral Home in Odon with Pastor Steve Sims officiating. Grace will be laid to rest in Walnut Hill Cemetery in Odon.

Family and friends may call from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Tuesday, October 1 and from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shiloh Church of God in memory of Grace. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
