Herschel Lewis Malone

Herschel Lewis Malone, 85, of Odon, Indiana, passed away with loving family by his side, on Thursday, March 23, 2023 at Ketcham Memorial Center in Odon. He was born on May 27, 1937 in Odon to Homer Ray and Bertha Elizabeth (Arthur) Malone. Herschel married the love of his life, Kathryn ‘Kay’ Mae (Overton) Malone on November 10, 1962. They recently celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary.

Herschel graduated from Odon in 1955 and then went off to serve in the US Army for three years active duty as a cryptographer. He was stationed in Japan for two years and has many pictures to show for it, including a picture of Mt. Fuji. After returning home from the Army, he farmed and also worked for a few years in area factories. Herschel was a member of the Mt. Nebo EUB Church.

Family left to cherish the memories of Herschel include: his wife, Kathryn ‘Kay’ Malone; two brothers, Jim (Linda) Malone and Bob (Sharon) Malone, both of Odon; three sisters, Gracie Cornelius of Odon, Ruth (Ralph) Hart of Newberry and Barb Fish of Odon; eleven nephews and thirteen nieces.

Herschel was preceded in death by: his parents; brother, David Malone; sisters, Audrey Finn, Opal Arnold and Edna Chestnut.

Funeral services to honor the life of Herschel will be at 1:00 PM on Thursday, March 30, 2023 at Meng Family Funeral Home in Odon with Rick Tribby officiating. Herschel will be laid to rest in Walnut Hill Cemetery in Odon following military graveside rites provided by the US Army Honor Guard and the Odon VFW Post #9627.

Family and friends may call from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 1:00 PM on Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Odon 2nd Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Odon Methodist Church or Elnora Church of Christ. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
