Larry E. Phelps

Larry E. Phelps, 68, of Odon, Indiana, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, June 9, 2021, at his home. He was born on August 5, 1952, in New Albany, Indiana to Eugene T. and Helen L. (Payton) Phelps. Larry married the love of his life, Nancy E. (Boxman) Phelps on August 14, 1976.

Larry was a member of the Odon United Methodist Church and the Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity. He was well involved with “Feed My Sheep” and with the Odon Methodist Church prayer group. Larry was a mechanical engineer at Crane Naval Base with 38 years of service and then retired from SAIC in 2016 with 10 years of service. He was very proud of his civilian job supporting the military and was honored to receive a Presidential Award for his outstanding work at Crane. Larry enjoyed attending car shows, sharing stories with everyone, and he especially enjoyed letting small children sit behind the wheel of his restored vehicles.

Family left to cherish the memories of Larry include: his wife, Nancy Phelps; one son, Justin Phelps of Odon; one daughter, Amanda Phelps of Atlanta, GA; one granddaughter, Emmamay Phelps and one sister, Shirley Hofelich of Elizabeth, IN.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents and three infant children.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, June 16, 2021, at Meng Family Funeral Home in Odon with Pastor Debbie Payne officiating. Larry will be laid to rest in Walnut Hill Cemetery in Odon.

Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until the time of the service at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, June 16 at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions can be made to Samaritans Purse or Odon United Methodist Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
