Richard 'Joe' Matthews

Richard Joe Matthews, 80, of Elnora, Indiana, passed from this life, surrounded by his loving family, on October 20, 2020. He was born in Daviess County, Indiana on February 15, 1940 to Ward Matthews and Leola Grace (Williams) Matthews. Joe married his wife Gennie (Chambers) Matthews on January 19, 1964.

Joe was a US Army Veteran. He was a member of the Elnora Christian Church, the Daviess County Fair Board, and the WRV Antique Association. Joe worked for CFS from 1964 to 1977 then switched over to Coop managing a fertilizer plant and LP Gas.

Family left to cherish Joe’s memory include: his wife, Gennie Matthews; two sons, Allen (Lisa) Harrell and Douglas (Michelle) Matthews; one daughter, Sheila (Larry) Hicks; granddaughter, Whitney (David) Sokola; grandson, Dustin Matthews; great-grandson, Vincent Sokola; his brother, Van (Donna) Matthews; his sisters, Lue Bindhammer and Sue (David) Houk.

Joe was proceeded in death by his parents, Ward and Leola Matthews, a brother, Tom Matthews, and a sister, Nancy Matthews.

There will be no public viewing or services. Joe will be laid to rest at Walnut Hill Cemetery at a later date.
