Virgil Roark Obituary

Virgil D. ‘Rosie’ Roark, 85, of Odon, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at Daviess Community Hospital in Washington. He was born on January 24, 1935 in Knox County, Indiana to Amos and Erma (Rogers) Roark. Virgil married Martha M. (Kelsey) Roark on November 27, 1960.

Virgil was a US Army veteran. He was a member of the Elnora Masonic Lodge #616 and the American Legion. Virgil worked at Crane as a Sheet Metal Fabricator and Planner Estimator for more than 28 years when he retired and also worked for Kelsey’s Drywall for many years. Virgil was an avid woodworker, fisherman and hunter.

Family left to cherish the memory of Virgil include: his wife, Martha ‘Mae’ Roark; one son, Brad (Renee) Roark of Odon; one daughter, Cindy (Tony) Martin of Worthington; grandchildren, Audra (Barney) O’Neill, Ashton (James) Northcutt, Cole Roark and McKenzie (Brandt) Lawyer; five great-grandchildren, Dylan Northcutt, Kylie Northcutt, Marshall Northcutt, Ainsley O’Neill and Aiden O’Neill; four sisters, June Rafferty of Nashville, IN, Patty Higgs of Matthews, NC, Carolyn Sue (Clare) Gee of Bloomington and Betty (Eddie) Hostetter of Elnora.

Virgil was preceded in death by: his parents; brothers and sisters, Billy ‘Bill’ Roark, Amos ‘Bud’ Roark, Jr., Mary Syester, Earnest ‘Harold’ Roark, John ‘Fuzz’ Roark, Clifford ‘White’ Roark, Earl ‘Hanner’ Roark, Hubert Roark, Elmer Roark, Irene (Robert) Cooper, Genevieve ‘Geneva’ (William) Woodruff and Dorothy Andis.

Private funeral services will be at 11:30 AM on Thursday, December 17, 2020 at Meng Family Funeral Home in Odon with Rick Tribby officiating. Masonic services will be held at 11:20 AM, prior to the funeral service. Family visitation will be from 10:30 until the time of the Masonic service. Virgil will be laid to rest in Sandborn Cemetery following military graveside rites by the Odon VFW Post #9627 and American Legion Post #293.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Indiana Masonic Home, 690 State St., Franklin, IN 46131. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

In compliance with state regulations, social distancing and face masks are required by all attending. Additional regulations are allowing only twenty-five (25) individuals in the funeral home at one time.
